Pictures From the Old City in Israel in May

Because there were still sirens and rockets when I was in Israel in May, there were hardly any people in the Old City. I captured a few women in prayer at the Kotel (Western Wall). Notice in the fourth photo, there is a sign on the wall indicating “protected space.” That is a place to shelter when a siren is heard.

Then off to the City of David, one of my favorite places in Jerusalem. I wanted to check the progress of the archaeological dig at the Pools of Siloam. What a vast difference since last year! Lots of people (mostly from India) working on that dig. After that, we stopped at one of my favorite gift shops for a little memory of our trip.

Even though I have been on both of the Western Wall Tunnel Tours, my friends wanted to visit. Inside are many synagogues. In the largest one we visited, we saw a giant pomegranate, which houses two Torah scrolls inside. I took a few photos of the women’s and men’s prayer area inside the tunnel.

We stopped at my favorite falafel place for lunch and then walked back to our hotel. The last picture is of two of my friends…one who came on the archaeological dig with me, and the other I met at the dig at Shiloh. She is from New York. Note — the streets are so empty! It’s a great time to go to Israel!
