DAY 12 - shiloh, bethlehem & Shepherds’ fields, Mount zion, st. Peter in gallicantu, communion at the garden tomb

After a good breakfast, we will head for Shiloh! Imagine standing where the holy tabernacle was originally established. Shiloh, nestled in the hills of Ephraim, is where God first made His Name abide for well over three centuries. It is rich in biblical history and the location of one of Israel’s greatest prophets, Samuel. It was at Shiloh where Hannah prayed for a son. It was at Shiloh where the boy, Samuel, heard the voice of God. It was at Shiloh that the high priest, Eli, fell and died at the news of the defeat and capture of the Ark of the Covenant by the Philistines. Today, Tel Shiloh is a treasure trove where archaeological excavations progress each year. There is always something new to see. Tel Shiloh also boasts one of the best souvenir shops, full of locally made crafts and wines. The whole congregation of Israel assembled together at Shiloh and set up the Tent of Meeting there. Joshua 18:1 Deby has been on the archaeological team for the past two seasons of excavations and will have first-hand information to share. Under the leadership of Dr. Scott Stripling, we believe we have found the tabernacle. Deby helped excavate in the Holy of Holies at one point. The team has discovered significant artifacts, including a gate complex at the northern edge of the city, a gate chamber as well as much pottery, jewelry and gold coins. They have also found rare altar horns on stone blocks, which Stripling believes may have adorned an altar used during the Israelites' first capital period. This is the place where Scripture says that Joshua and Eleazar divided the land among the tribes (Joshua 18:1–10). In addition, young Samuel was dedicated by his mother Hannah at Shiloh. Deby will introduce you to the site, and you will stand in the Holy of Holies. After lunch we will visit Bethlehem. Tradition teaches that Jesus was born at the Inn but is that what the Scriptures say? We will learn what the Scripture really says and see where the Shepherd’s Fields is the more likely location. Some of the important Christian events which took place on Mount Zion include The Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples (Matthew 26:17-30; Mark 14:12-25; Luke 22:7-23; John 13:1—17:26), the coming of the Holy Spirit on the disciples in the form of a fire tongue on top of each disciples head (Acts 2:1-13), both events believed to have taken place here. The appearance of Jesus before the high priest Caiaphas (Matthew 26:57-75), whom conspired to have Jesus killed, is believed to have taken place at the site of where the Church of St Peter stands today in Gallicantu. We will visit the Garden Tomb and a guide will share why this may be the site where Yeshua was buried. We will have time for communion and a song.

Overnight at the Prima Kings Hotel, Jerusalem

day 13 - mount of olives, palm sunday road, garden of Gethsemane, saint anne’s, Pools of Bethesda, ecce Homo, christian quarter, jaffa gate

In the morning, we will go to the Mt. of Olives, which overlooks the Kidron Valley and the Temple Mount. We will literally walk where Yeshua walked through parts of the Old City and down the Palm Sunday Path to visit the Tear Drop Church. We will stop at the Garden of Gethsemane, the garden across the Kidron Valley on the Mount of Olives, where Yeshua prayed on the night of His arrest before His crucifixion. We will have time in a private garden for prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. We will stop in Saint Anne’s Church for a song to hear the beautiful acoustics and if we have any singers willing to sing solos….and then outside for a short walk to see the Pools of Bethesda. The Pool of Bethesda is referred to in John 5:2, where Yeshua healed a paralyzed man at a pool of water in Jerusalem, near the Sheep Gate and surrounded by five covered colonnades or porticoes that you will see here. We will stop by Ecco Homo (the arch near the beginning of the Via Dolorosa) where for centuries, Christians believed was the place where Pontius Pilate displayed Yeshua, beaten, crowned with thorns, and clothed in a purple robe. It is possibly where the words were spoken: “Behold the Man.” (Ecco Homo in Latin). You will have the afternoon in the Old City for shopping, a visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, or a walk on the Ramparts or more! This will be our last night in Jerusalem and we will end our tour with a special Farewell Shabbat Dinner.
