Israel’s Unprecedented Second Election in the Same Year – Voting Begins Tonight

Israel is getting ready to elect representatives to the 22nd Knesset on Tuesday (which begins on our Monday night).

Things are done differently in Israel than they are here in the US. Last April Israel held her national elections. However, when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a coalition, it forced the country back to the polls. Benjamin Netanyahu is the leader of the Likud Party and his strongest opponent is Benny Gantz, leader of the Blue and White Party.

Public interest in the second election is at a record low and because of that, the parties have basically waited until these last weeks prior to the election to push their message to voters. Their primary message is dissuading the public from voting for their rivals. Netanyahu is saying that the Blue and White leader’s recent comments clearly state he intends to set up a left-wing government and warns the voters not to vote for him. Although Netanyahu says a Gantz victory will result in a left-wing and Arab government, no Arab party has joined a government in the state’s history.

The Times of Israel published an article called “Round two: ToI’s (Times of Israel) guide to the 30 parties that want your vote, again” on September 16th which explains Israel’s voting system and parties. It is an excellent article.

Song For Israel asks that Americans pray for these elections. Please share this article asking for prayer.

“Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (I Timothy 2:1-2)
