Prime Minister Wants a "Greater Israel"

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Israel) has endorsed a vision for a "greater Israel." This includes parts of neighboring countries that are occupied by Arabs (and others) - See the map to the right.

Netanyahu explained that "he felt that his generation was tasked with continuing the work of his parents' generation, who created the state, by safeguarding its existence, before praising the current generation's dedication to this 'mission.'" He continued and seemed to be referring to the term "promised land" instead of words like "expanding the borders."

Of course, several Arab nations strongly condemned Netanyahu as Arabs are living in some of the land mentioned.

Could the Prime Minister be referring to the original land grant that God gave to Abraham and his descendants (Genesis 15:18-21)? That promised land included areas on the eastern side of the Jordan River, Jerusalem (all of it), Judea, Samaria (many refer to this area as "The West Bank"), the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, and the Golan Heights.

Many controversial issues have arisen about the legitimacy of Israel as a nation in the last few decades. Some claim that the Israel of today is not the Israel mentioned in the Bible. They base this on some of those who were involved in reviving the nation, names like the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds, who didn't have the Bible in mind, but rather money. Some say that because of their evil intent, the Israel of today is not the future Israel the Bible references. Based on my study of the Scriptures, this cannot be true. In many places, the Scriptures mention that the Jewish people will be brought back into their land in unbelief. They will eventually be saved, but not at first (see Ezekiel 36:24-25). God never said that the people who would restore Israel as a nation would be holy or have good motives. He simply stated they would be brought back into the land in unbelief. The majority of those living in Israel do not believe in Jesus/Yeshua. They reject Him. Does that mean that the 1948 restoration of Israel is not what we are looking for? No way!

Is the Prime Minister wrong to expand Israel's territory if the land is what is mentioned in Genesis? Genesis 17:7 says, "I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you." Verse 8 continues, "I will give you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."

There needs to be a longer discussion to get the full picture. This topic will be much more disputed in the coming days.
